Uttarakhand shrine - (Gangotri)

Uttarakhand is one of the famous state of India which is mostly famous for there culture, tourism & there beautiful hills.
Uttarakhand is generally known for there tourism which is main source of there income where thousands of temples are situated here which fascinates tourists to travel here , this is the main reason Uttarakhand is known as "Land of god".

So today i will give you some information about Gangotri shrine( गंगोत्री) which is one of the most famous pilgrimage of uttarakhand.
Gangotri is a town and  a municipality in uttarkashi district in the state of Uttarakhand , India. It is a Hindu pilgrimage town on the banks of river Bhagirath and origin of river Ganges. According to popular Hindu legend, it was here that Goddess Ganga descended when Lord Shiva released the enormous river from the locks of his hair.
According to Hindu mythology , Goddess Ganga took the form of a river to absolve the sins of king Bhagiratha's predecessors , following his severe penance of several centuries .
 Gangotri (गंगोत्री)

Gangotri, the origin of the River Ganges and seat of the goddess Ganga, is one of the four sites in the chota char dham pilgrimage circuit . The original Gangotri temple was built by the Nepalese general Amar Singh Thapa. The river is called Bhagirathi at the source and acquires the name Ganga (the ganges) from Devprayag onwards where it meets the Alaknanda .

Gangotri Glacier

The origin of the holy river is at Gaumukh, set in the Gangotri Glacier , and is a 19 km trek from Gangotri . The temple is closed from Diwali day every year and is reopened in May . During this time, the idol of the goddess in kept at Mukhba village , near Harsil . Rituals duties of the temple are supervised by the Semwal (caste) family of Pujaris (priest) . These pujaris (priest) hail from Mukhba village.
